WEEK 35 - You can dish it, but can you take it?

Sometimes, we need a taste of our own medicine...

"You are cute and you deserve a break" hand-lettered affirmation by Lauren Hom.

Hello and welcome to Week 35 of #HOMwork!

Have you ever noticed how easy it is to give advice to friends and family who ask for it, and even to those who don't?

“You should definitely ask for that raise, you deserve it!”
“Take care of yourself first.”
“You’re smart and capable and you have what it takes to achieve that goal.”
"Deep Breaths"

Buttttttt when it comes to counseling ourselves, it can be harder to listen to the sage advice we so readily offer our peers, particularly when we need it most.

I can't tell you the countless times I find myself discussing challenges in my life with friends, my dad, and my grandma and quickly offering them advice or an alternate perspective that is so often applicable in my own life and relevant to my current struggles. And why, if I'm offering this advice to my closest friends, would I not trust that same insight into making my own decisions?

Trusting and listening to your own advice can be an exceptionally powerful tool as a creator and entrepreneur. (It's something I've been practicing for a while now.)

Your assignment this week is to letter or design a piece of advice that you've given that you should probably take yourself. Whether it's life, career, or dating advice the things we tell our friends are often tidbits of wisdom we should take into consideration ourselves.

After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what unique pairs everyone came up with.

In the caption, I want you to tell us about a time you gave a friend this advice and how it could have made a difference in your own life.

As always, I'll be featuring my favorite pieces from this week in my Instagram Story. Remember to tag me @homsweethom in your posts so I don't miss 'em.

I hope this assignment gives you a little more faith in taking your own advice. Can't wait to see your words of wisdom!

Love,
Lauren
