WEEK 33 - If Plan A doesn’t work…

There's always Plan B, C, D, E, F, G...

Alphabet designed by Lauren Hom.

Hello and welcome to Week 33 of #HOMwork!

"If Plan A doesn't work out, don't worry. There are 25 more letters in the alphabet."

I stumbled across this phrase last year, and it really struck a chord with me. In last week's challenge, I wrote a bit about how I went from studying advertising and working at an agency (aka my Plan A) to becoming a hand lettering artist running her own business (yay for Plan B).

If you're feeling lost because your Plan A isn't working out like you imagined it would, I want you to know this: you do not have to stick to a plan just because you said you would. Trust your gut and don't be afraid to try another plan because only YOU can decide what's best for you.

What would happen if you shifted your focus from "what I should do" to "what I want to do"?

I think the most important thing you can do when it comes to navigating your creative career path is to be in tune with your wants & needs and not be afraid of trying new things. You are smarter than you think, and you will figure it out.

In honor of this idea, your assignment this week is to create a design using the entire alphabet!

After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what unique pairs everyone came up with.

In the caption, I want you to reflect on a time when your Plan A didn't go as expected but your Plan B ended up teaching you something valuable.

As always, I'll be featuring my favorite pieces from this week in my Story. Remember to tag me @homsweethom in your posts so I don't miss 'em.

I hope this assignment serves as a bit of encouragement for anyone who needs it. Don't put too much importance on Plan A. You never know when Plan X, Y or Z will surprise you.

Can't wait to see your alphabets!

Love,
Lauren
