Hello and welcome to Week 34 of #HOMwork!
This week's HOMwork is brought to you by my talented friend Terence Tang (some of you may know him as Tinlun Studio on Instagram). He's a Houston-based lettering artist whose studio focuses on purpose, fulfillment, and never-ending growth, so naturally he whipped up a super insightful assignment for us this week. To see more of his work, check out his website and follow his lettering on Instagram.
And now, your assignment and a message from Terence:
"Howdy y'all! This week's assignment is all about self-reflection.
A few examples to get you started:
Fickle and impulsive → In tune with my gut
Too sensitive → Highly empathic
Bad planner → Great improviser
Super quiet → Thinks before speaking
Why so emo? Hitting rock bottom a few times over the past year has forced me to take many long looks in the mirror, forgive the mistakes of the person looking back at me, and decide how I can make tweaks to become a better version of myself.
I'm constantly told that I'm way too sensitive, but I take pride in being highly empathic to where I can physically feel others' emotions and clearly and easily see things from their viewpoint. This allows me to form close friendships very quickly and be very considerate of others' feelings. It even translates to my creative/professional life in that I'm good at infusing brand story and company values into a visual identity, as well as telling compelling stories with filmmaking.
Making mistakes can lead to dwelling on your flaws which can cause a downward spiral, but putting a positive spin on those negative traits can result in seeing yourself in a much healthier light."
After you complete the assignment, the second part of the challenge is to snap a photo of your drawing and post it on Instagram with the hashtag #HOMwork so we can see what strengths everyone realized they have.
In the caption, tell us how the positive outlook has helped you in your life.
Terence and I will be featuring our favorites in our Instagram Stories. Remember to tag @tinlunstudio and me @homsweethom in your posts so we don't miss 'em!
Can’t wait to see what positives come out of your negatives this week.
