Woah, it's Week 35 of HOMwork 2019!
(If this is your first time joining us, take a peek at our Challenge Archive for 80+ previous assignments.)
As artists, many of us love the process of creating work and honing our skills, but when it comes to promoting those skills to reach potential clients...we get kinda weird about it?
While making good work and sharing it certainly qualifies as marketing your work, it’s also important to remind your audience about the services you offer and that you’re available for hire. Often times, artists hesitate to do this kind of direct self-promotion because they think it's spamming their audience (but trust me, it's not!). People follow you because they want to see your work and hear about YOU, and I designed this week's assignment to show you how self-promotion can be creative, compelling and dare I say...fun.
If you’ve been following me for a while, you know by now that one of my favorite techniques for creating interesting work is to take something familiar and give it a twist by adding your own style, humor or personality. Not only does it work for for passion projects and portfolio pieces, it's also great way to make your marketing shine.
The idea for this assignment came to me while looking for inspiration outside of the design world. I thought to myself, "What's a cute, fun and familiar way that non-art related businesses market themselves?" and as per usual, my mind turned to food.
We're mixing things up to give you a variety of creative freebies. This week, we've got two FREE Photoshop brushes for you to experiment with, courtesy of DesignCuts.
